COP29 - UN Climate Change Conference 2024 - Baku

This year the UN Climate Change Conference - or the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC usually known as COP (it's COP29 this year) will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The conference has three primary targets to focus on:

  1. Continuing with the fixed goal of avoiding warming above 1.5ºC

  2. To “enhance ambition and enable action”

  3. Making sure everyone is included

People are touting this COP as 'the finance COP, with negotiations seen as critical to advance a range of financial tools and instruments to support actions to address climate change.’

It brings up an important point - sustainability costs. It costs money and effort - but with the huge benefit of a reduction of environmental cost. As circular economist Vojtech Vosecky says, “When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money.” - see his post here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/vojtechvosecky_when-the-last-tree-has-been-cut-down-the-activity-7252201097639997440-hKga?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

At ICEX GROUP, we are committed to doing our part for sustainability by the proper secure handling of IT Assets. We believe in the circular economy. We know that it is far better for the planet when a device can be revived for reuse than being dumped. We always avoid landfilling. And we see breaking down devices, that no longer have functionality, into component parts for proper recycling as our last resort.
