World MSME Day and the Circular Economy
Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of the global economy, making up about 90% of businesses and over 50% of employment worldwide. In developing countries, they are crucial for driving innovation and sustainable growth. This year MSME Day fell on the 27th of June.
The UN has outlined Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at creating a fairer and more sustainable future by 2030. However, progress is lagging, and the UN stresses the need for more action. This year's theme focuses on empowering, educating and encouraging MSMEs to drive the achievement of the UN SDGs. (See the 17 SDGs here: https://sdgs.un.org/)
ICEX GROUP itself is an SME and we are driving the SDGs with our focus on improving the circularity and sustainability of the tech industry. We are an ITAD providing STARR services. ITAD stands for IT Asset Disposal/Disposition but the term ITAD, with its implications, is somewhat lacking. This is why we came up with STARR - Secure Technology Asset Revival and Relocation services - as we believe it better captures what we, and companies like us, are trying to achieve.
A lot of the clients we provide ITAD/STARR services for are SMEs also and we are very happy to be a part of driving (M)SMEs towards sustainability, the circular economy and achieving the UN SDGs.
