ICEX GROUP supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Flag campaign

ICEX GROUP supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Flag campaign to promote 17 areas for improving sustainability for people and the planet.

The specific area we want to focus on today is SDG Goal #8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth.

We are a business and we cannot function without a level of profitability. Our business is a part of the green economy and that is important to our core vision.

Our vision for ICEX GROUP is to be the most sustainable IT Asset Partner for Corporate IT Departments. We’re striving to make a better world. A world where no technology assets ever get wasted and everyone has access to affordable technology. A world where technology assets are reused as much as possible, and when new assets are needed, they’re always sustainable. Only when they’ve reached the end of their life, and as a last resort, do they get recycled. And absolutely nothing goes to landfill.

We promote the circular economy by increasing the lifespan of technologies.

We reduce E-waste to landfill which directly reduces carbon impact by relocating, repurposing, reviving and, if necessary, recycling IT assets.

A lot of what SDG Goal #8 is about is helping developing economies and those around the world who are not protected by social programmes etc.

One charity we support is
Partners Relief & Development - they do great work in crisis zones and indirectly will help many people who fall under the concern of SDG Goal #8. The UN say that, as of 2022, “Two billion workers are in precarious informal jobs without social protection”.

Together for the SDGs is very nice on paper - and that is why we vocally support it - but it has to involve us all taking practical action - of course!

We are not yet close to being a circular economy with E-waste projected to continue growing. This is a problem. We want to help as many organisations as possible be part of the solution.

As these SDGs are put forward by the UN, it is worth mentioning their recent climate conference - COP28. An agreement to reduce fossil fuels was met.

Time will tell if it will have an impact but in general, it seems to be in the right direction. Some countries called for the agreement to use language meaning all fossil fuels will be completely phased out; what was agreed is a phased reduction. There are naturally many criticisms, many of which will be valid. The general feeling seems to be: right direction but probably not forceful or definitive enough, but couldn’t get some to agree so what is agreed is better than nothing.
